The International Journal of Physical Distribution and Logistics Management (IJPDLM) has long been an NITL academic journal of choice for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is the longest established journal in the field and has developed a strong track record over the last four decades or so. Secondly, it has a high impact factor relative to comparable academic journals and has been ranked highly in various international ranking processes (e.g. in Germany, France and Australia). Thirdly, and most importantly from NITL’s perspective, IJPDLM has a unique mission which differentiates it from other comparable journals. This mission recognizes the multidisciplinary nature of logistics and SCM, as well as emphasising the primarily strategic nature of the domain and the need for a strong orientation towards the people dimension of the subject. In line with this, IDPDLM has a strong international orientation - vital given the increasingly global complexion of supply chains and the concomitant internationalization of research in the field.

NITL’s Edward Sweeney recently accepted an invitation to join the Journal’s Editorial Advisory Board (EAB). He joins many of the recognized thought leaders in global logistics and SCM on the Board. These include Martin Christopher of Cranfield, Edgar Blanco of MIT and Britta Gammelgaard of Copenhagen Business School. Dr. Sweeney commented that: “I have long been impressed with IJPDLM both as an author and a reviewer from the point of view of the professionalism of the editorial team, speed in turning submissions around and the rigour that is evident in the review process. In this context, I have always found the journal’s editorial team receptive to new thinking – particularly from a methodological perspective – that challenges some of the conventional wisdom in the field. I am honoured to accept the invitation to me to join the journal’s EAB”.
