NITL Contributes to New Book on Supply Systems

In recent decades, academics and practitioners have increasingly recognised that effective management of the customer/supplier relationship is a critical tool for achieving superior performance and, in many cases, remaining competitive in the marketplace. Nevertheless, the effective management of customer/supplier relationships is a complex and risky issue that requires the combination of different kinds of knowledge.

The Evolution of Supply Systems Management provides a comprehensive view concerning the evolution of customer/supplier relationship thinking and practice. It analyses a number of relevant topics in this area such as subcontracting relationships, quality management, technological and organisational change affecting customer/supplier relationships, the impact of economic volatility on supply systems and logistics service suppliers and the role of information and communication technology. For this reason, the book is beneficial to a wide readership including academics, researchers, managers, consultants, policy makers, and students.

The foreword to the book is written by one of the field’s most eminent scholars, Professor Richard C. Lamming. Richard is currently Visiting Professor of Supply Chain Management at Manchester Business School, having previously held senior positions at the Universities of Exeter and Bath. NITL features in the book with a chapter on the use of multi-criteria approaches to the assessment of aviation e-marketplaces. The Evolution of Supply Systems Management is edited by Professors Emilio Esposito and Maria Raffa of the University of Naples “Federico II” and was launched during the recent IPSERA conference (see http://www.ipsera2012.unina.it/) hosted by that University.
