NITL strengthening research and educational links with China

(29 May 2012)

NITL has recently been strengthening research and educational links with China. During a recent tour of China, Antonio de Linares visited Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT). HIT is a very prestigious university in one of the Northeastern regions of the country which has been partner of DIT for more than 10 years. Until now this collaboration has been very fruitful - mainly focused on the field of computer science. The aim of this visit has been to replicate this success in the supply chain management (SCM) arena. Thus, in the last couple of months NITL and HIT have already been exploring common areas of research interest in particular on issues of environmental sustainability, ICT and integration. At the same time it is expected to start a programme which will allow the exchange of lecturers and students to enrich the educational experience for both institutes.

The recent visit to China has also brought NITL to Shanghai and Xi’an where our representatives in both cities have indicated growth in the awareness in China of the importance of having more people with a solid education in supply chain management. As a result of this visit a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed this May between NITL and Xingzhi College of Xi’an which will involve hosting five students from the Chinese college who will attend our fulltime M.Sc. in Supply Chain Management every year.

NITL has been fully embarked upon this Chinese adventure already for more than 2 years in keeping with the pivotal importance of China in the world and the increasing links built between the Asian country and Ireland. This was recently clearly highlighted with the visit to Ireland of Chinese vice president Xi Jinping last February and the visit to China of Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the end of March.
