Supply Chain 2013 Award Winners Announced

The 2013 Supply Chain Awards took place before an audience of Ireland's top supply chain professionals yesterday, with Richard Curran of RTÉ's Dragon's Den presiding over the ceremony. NITL congratulates all of the winners on their fine achievement. This event promotes excellence in end-to-end supply chain management (SCM) and seeks to recognise those companies and professionals who are leaders in building supply chain capability and performance. NITL acted as patron of the event with Edward Sweeney overseeing the judging process.

L.É. Emer in Dublin

NITL has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship with the Irish Defence Forces with over 20 Officers having completed its postgraduate programmes over the last decade. Edward Sweeney was a guest on board the L.É. Emer when she berthed in Dublin earlier this week.

Good Turnout at Research & Innovation Open Day

The large turnout at last week’s Research & Innovation Open Day is indicative of the role of research and other scholarly activity in the Smart Economy model of the 21st Century. There was considerable interest in NITL’s research in the areas of supply chain integration (SCI), logistics technology application, environmental sustainability and supply chain learning (SCL).

EurOMA Returns to Dublin

Last week saw 500 of the world’s leading operations and supply chain management scholars visit Dublin for the annual EurOMA conference. EurOMA (the European Operations Management Association) is an international network of academics and practitioners from around the world who have a common interest in the continuing development of the Operations Management discipline.

Trans-Atlantic Outreach: NITL visits US centres of excellence

NITL has long had strong academic links throughout Europe and in many parts of Asia. A recent visit to New England and New York aimed to build stronger linkages with recognised US centres of excellence in the transport, logistics and SCM fields. The trip was built around meetings at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), New England Institute of Technology (NE Tech) and New York University (NYU).

New Book Based on NITL’s Italian Collaboration Published

During the 2010/2011 academic year NITL participated in an innovative postgraduate programme funded by the Government of Regione Campania in Italy. As part of this initiative, NITL collaborated with its partners at the University of Naples “Parthenope” in the design and development of an international Masters programme in the area of freight transport and supply chain management (SCM).

NITL Welcomes New Forfas Report on the Future of Manufacturing

Forfas recently published Making it in Ireland: Manufacturing 2020 which sets out a clear vision for the future of manufacturing industry in Ireland. The comprehensive report adopts a broad definition of “manufacturing” as “encompassing a broad range of activities from research and development through design, production, logistics and distribution to marketing and after sales services”.

NITL at the Dublin Staff Relay

NITL was again represented at last week’s Dublin Staff Relay. Our two teams from NITL and the DIT’s Department of Transport Engineering successfully completed the 5 x 5km course and raised a significant amount of money for Temple Street Children’s Hospital in the process.
