NITL has been invited to support economic development in the City of Naples, with specific reference to SCM and logistical issues. During his recent visit to Naples, Edward Sweeney met the Mayor of Naples (Rosa Russo Iervolino) and the Minister for Economic Development (Mario Raffa) to initiate this work.

Sixteen graduates of NITL’s flagship M.Sc. programme in Supply Chain Management were conferred last Saturday in St. Patrick's Cathedral at the DIT Faculty of Engineering graduation ceremony.

NITL marked another important milestone in its development with the award by DIT of a Ph.D. to Claudia Wagner who works as a Senior Researcher at the Institute. Dr Wagner’s research was undertaken at NITL under the supervision of senior NITL academic staff. Her Doctoral thesis was entitled ‘The impact of Business-toBusiness E-Marketplaces as Extended Media in the Procurement Supply Chain of Airlines’.

NITL was delighted to host the recent visit of Pietro Evangelista. This was part of an ongoing and longstanding research collaboration between NITL and Italian supply chain scholars. NITL’s most recent research collaboration with Pietro and his colleagues is based around the role of ICT in the logistics of extended enterprises.

In recent weeks NITL welcomed over 30 new participants to its supply chain management learning programmes. All major sectors in the Irish economy were represented with participants from a range of companies including PepsiCo, Apple, DHL and Wyeth.

NITL, as part of its ongoing investigation into the Supply Chain Management practices of Irish firms, is engaged in empirical research into current Supply Chain capability. The academic integrity of this work is reflected in the recent publication of “Supply Chain Management Diffusion Among Firms in the Republic of Ireland” (by Sweeney, E., Wagner, C. and Huber, B.) in the prestigious International Journal of Logistics: Research and Applications.
